State senator files bill to preempt any proposed red flag laws from the federal government

OKLAHOMA CITY — A state senator announced Tuesday that he has filed a bill that would push back against any proposed red flag laws coming from the federal government.

Red flag laws allow a family member or officer who thinks somebody poses an immediate risk to ask a judge to order that person’s guns be taken away temporarily. In early August, after a weekend that saw several people die and others become injured because of mass shootings in Texas and Ohio, President Donald Trump announced that he supports those laws.

  1. Red flag laws are fine when mental instability is involved. But the accused should absolutely be given the opportunity to be proven guilty and not simply be assumed guilty, and the guns should be immedietly returned free of charge if it is proven that the accusations are false.
This type of law can be too easily abused by a vindictive spouse, just as molestation charges are abused ro simply slander the other person or to take visitation of the kids away. It is not unheard of at all for this to happen during ugly divorces.
