Pulling Through: A Chronicle of my Back Molar Extraction

June 25, 2023 M.D. Creekmore

The day of the extraction…

You might have already seen this in my community section on YouTube, but in case you haven’t, I wanted to provide you with a quick update.

This past Thursday, I underwent an extraction of a back molar. Yes, I know, it’s not pleasant, but it was necessary due to a large cavity that had previously been filled thirteen months ago, but had unfortunately fallen out.

Instead of opting for another filling and risking the likelihood of the same thing happening in just a few months, I decided to have it extracted. And so, I did!

The experience was rather painful, reminiscent of Barack Obama’s first meeting with Michael LaVaughn Robinson under the rainbow flag.

As I walked into the dentist’s office, I had hoped the tooth would be removed with a single, clean pull. However, to my dismay, that wasn’t the case. As the dentist (who happened to be a woman) began the procedure, I felt the tooth break – an instant of dread washed over me.

When she asked if I was okay, I couldn’t respond verbally as she was still operating on the tooth, so I just gave her a thumbs-up. What complicated matters was that according to the X-ray, the root of the tooth had grown into my sinus cavity.

The dentist continued her work, alternating from my right side to my left. Suddenly, a part of the tooth popped out and fell onto the floor.

Again, she asked if I was okay. I responded with another thumbs-up, and she continued until she finally managed to remove the tooth completely.

In the aftermath of the extraction, I bled for around five to six hours. This was followed by several days of intense pain, the worst I’ve experienced from a tooth extraction. It remains excruciatingly sore and swollen, but I think it’s beginning to heal and the pain is starting to subside, if only slightly.

My plan is to resume uploading on YouTube by Tuesday or Wednesday. There’s so much happening that I’m eager to discuss, but talking is still a painful endeavor.

Had the same thing a month ago, back molar, tooth came out in pieces, root in sinus cavity, can’t do an implant unless I have sinus reconstruction, so a bridge it is.
Could be dry socket. Painful and lasts awhile. Gentle saltwater rinse might help. Could also be an infection and in need of antibiotics. Be well.

Oh, that story sounds terrible! Hopefully you’re on the mend. If the swelling and pain don’t subside, go in for a recheck in case you’re infected. Bone infections are dangerous. Take care, MD!

Well, I cringed the whole time I was reading about your experience. I pray that you will be completely healed very soon. I couldn’t help but think about how it might have gone if we were all in a SH*T situation. I’m surely that occurred to you, too. Diane in NC

I had like experiences when dentists did my extractions. Then I needed another tooth extraction and my current dentist declined to do the extraction. My dentist instead referred me to an oral surgeon who does extractions on a daily basis. My procedure for the extraction was done in less than 30 minutes. No pain. Not during and not after. Quick recovery and healing. My wife who had a terrible experience like you did with a former dentist doing an extraction had another extraction with an oral surgeon. Likewise, 30 minutes to get it done and no pain during or after the procedure. Also, a quick recovery.

LMAO! Dude…even to equate your dental work to Bath House Barry’s ‘extra-curricular activities’…just don’t seem kosher. Although funny-lost my coffee on that one! LOL!

Get ALL your dental and medical/surgical needs out of the way ASAP, before TS truly HTF. Otherwise, YOU will either be in a ton of pain, or have to do the “work” yourself.

    “When there’s no Dentist/Doctor” books are helpful….somewhat.

Ouch! I had a back molar that had a root canal and crown several years ago. It started hurting, swelling and super erupting. It finally fell out yesterday but upon inspection, part of the the root is still in my gum. I can’t afford to go the dentist.
    Hope you heal up soon!
I can’t believe with all the technology they have that dentistry is still so painful and dreaded. I have nightmares about some experiences I’ve had. Barbaric!

Oh my gosh! I’m too chicken to do that without sedation. I had an impacted tooth a few years ago I had extracted and that along with strong pain meds for 4 or 5 days made the whole experience painless. Opioids get a terrible rap but in this case it was 100% positive.

So glad that your tooth is out and the procedure is over. It sounds like you had dry socket and I had that once as a child and it is terribly painful. The dentist could have packed it again and helped alleviate the pain (info in case it ever happens for you again). Can’t wait until we have theocratic rule and no more pain.

I had mines done and I felt better the next day. Since she was struggling with your molar, alot of pressure was put on your jaw. If the pain continues, you should get it looked at. At least you hopefully don’t have to worry about that molar anymore.

    Feel better MD

    MD,
Continued prayers 🙏🙏🙏 I do try to think about everything that might or could happen in an SHTF situation as far as heath etc. I encourage others to grow and store as many medicinal herbs as possible. Make tinctures stock up on OTC pain meds, orajel etc. The plant “Toothache plant” will numb your mouth and gums but do your research as always before using. I know pain is not a good thing as I was crushed by a horse and my lower back was broken in 5 places my hip, pelvis and many more injuries. They said I would probably never walk again. God, said otherwise and don’t even walk with a limp. God is good 😊 Hope you are feeling better and pain free very soon. Hugs.

Next time use an dental surgeon- they can knock you totally out and really clean up the wound. My bad tooth cost $1000.00 and it was worth it!

Prayers lifting from MT for your speed and complete healing. My husband has to have two wisdom teeth extracted and he said if it had been the first two, the other two would still be in there, he ended up with a black eye and face swollen up and severe pain, but he survived and is hopeful he will never have to undergo anything like that again. Feel better soon and we’ll be watching for your return.

The dentist is my least favorite place I feel for you. Dental pain can be eased by making a cup of hot black tea and not adding anything and sip on it once cooled. Also use the tea bag with clove either essential oil or clove powder from the spice cabinet. Sprinkle clove on the wet cooled tea bag and hold it on your sore mouth spot, it numbs it and helps it heal. Oregano oil can be added to the bag also.
I will say a prayer for your speedy recovery.
